GSD Safe Space
Success and Acheivement for Every Student in Every School

Welcome everyone!

pink heart.jpgWe are happy to welcome you to our online GSD safe space.  We created this place because we felt that providing our LGBTQ* students and their allies with a place to meet online might help create much needed connections.  The truth is that growing up as LGBTQ* is a challenge no matter where you live.  However, LGBTQ* students who grow up in small towns, which make up much of our division, especially know how isolating and difficult that can be.  Often it feels as if you have to carry the weight alone.  But you need to know that you are never alone.  That is why we created this space.

The two teachers in charge – Ms. Heidi Hesselink and Mr. Matthew Mickleborough – have uploaded some resources, videos, links to important content, and created a discussion board.  Use and access this content however you want.  However, our ultimate goal is that we want this space to be student-led.  We may pose occasional prompts and update the resources, but we want to give you, the students, the freedom to transform this space.  Feel free to express yourself.

Please remember that this space is still growing.  Eventually we hope to link up with in-school GSA/QSAs.  There will be a space set up for you to video chat with other students from around the division if you want.  We are considering having speakers join us occasionally.  If you have any ideas about what we might add or how we might improve this sight, please let us know.   Anything you can tell us about what you like or don't like, want or don't want, will help us make this space better for you.

heart hands.jpgBoth of us very much appreciate that you are here and look forward to getting to know you.  If you know of any students who you think might be interested in this, spread the word!  Take a minute to introduce yourself on the discussion board when you can.  Just know that no matter where you are or what you are struggling with, this space is made for you, and that both Ms. Heidi Hesselink and myself are here to be your support, however and whenever you might need it.
